Confirmed: Andrew Stanton Confirms He’s Directing ‘Finding Nemo Sequel’

Andrew Stanton

In a L.A. Times interview, Stanton explains directing ‘John Carter’.  About three-fourths through the interview, he mentions he’s directing the ‘Finding Nemo Sequel’:

After “The Abyss,” Cameron returned to the film that had launched him, ”The Terminator,” and made “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.” Similarly, Stanton’s next directing project will be a sequel to “Finding Nemo.”

“What was immediately on the list was writing a second ‘Carter’ movie,” he said. When that went away, everything slid up. I know I’ll be accused by more sarcastic people that it’s a reaction to ‘Carter’ not doing well, but only in its timing, but not in its conceit.”

Lee Unkrich’s New Project

Late Thursday evening, Lee Unkrich shared the following on his twitter:

Tomorrow is a big day that may determine the next four years of my life. Wish me luck.

The next day, he was likely pitching an idea or awaiting a decision on whether or not his next project would receive the greenlight. Well, it looks like things went fairly well, as on Friday he shared a tweet (that has since been taken down) that read, “Weekend: Relax. Monday: Get started on a new movie.”

As to what the film will be about and whether it will be an original film or a sequel, we haven’t got a clue.

The unannounced film will likely be in production for about four years, giving it a release date of sometime around 2015 or 2016.
